Jotunheim single malt whisky

 

Yeast : brewer's yeast. Saccharomyces Pastorianus.

Malt : Pilsener Malt, Planet and norse Popino barley.

Water : Water from Elvejordvannet, the melted glacier water of the Lyngen Alps.

Distillation : A combination of our copper potstill and our copper column with two active trays. The average distillation time is between 8-10 hours, the average alcohol content of the middle course is ~ 75% vol.

Storage : Heaven Hill Bourbon Quarter Casks, finished in first fill Imperial stout barrels from the neighboring Graff microbrewery.

 

Aromas : Deep coffee roast aromas, vanilla, chocolate and tobacco.

 

Mythology around the name

Jotunheim is the world of giants - or Jotnar, as they are called in Norse mythology. The Jotnars are the gods' worst enemies and there are many stories of battles between them. The most famous Jotunn is Loki - the god of mischief, who was accepted by the gods and lived in Asgard until he was punished. Jotunheim consists mainly of rocks, wilderness and dense forests and it is in the snowy regions on the outermost shores of the ocean.

 

The most famous jotnar is Loke. He is the father of Hel, the wolf Fenrir and the world snake Jörmungandr. He is often referred to as the god of mischief because of his many tricks against the gods. Loki sometimes helps the gods and behaves bad towards them as im Incident in which he caused the death of the god Baldr.

Bivrost® Jotunheim Single malt whisky is handcrafted in the glow of the northern lights at the foot of the majestic Lyngen Alps at 69 ° N. Made from Nordic barley, fermented with melt water from the Lyngen Alps and distilled in our high-tech still. This is a combination of modern distillation technology and tradition.
